GCSE PHYSICS UNLOCK GRADES 7-9

Coming soon: GCSE Physics – Unlock Grades 7–9

So much of GCSE science teaching and revision is spent on AO1: recalling facts, definitions and examples. Yet 40% of GCSE marks are for AO2 application questions, where students have to recognise the idea, and apply understanding in an unfamiliar context. This book bridges the gap by providing a systematic approach to getting AO2 marks.

30 High‑yield problem types

Unlock Grades 7–9 focuses on thirty AO2 'problem types' - questions that exam boards regularly set, plus the physics and maths demands of the toughest questions. The book has sections for each of the most common question types: calculations, multi‑step calculations and written explanations.

An expert problem‑solving strategy

We have boiled down how expert physicists tackle problems – Decode, Recall, Plan, Write. Students learn to:

  • Decode: read questions for the underlying concepts and key information, not just the surface story
  • Recall: retrieve the important ideas, relationships and equations they need
  • Plan: connect the ideas to the question and work out a solution
  • Write: turns the plan into a logically structured calculation or explanation to match the mark scheme

A pathway to mastery

Each problem starts with a fully worked, annotated example to make the expert thought processes visible. It's followed by a closely matched example for students to rehearse the same moves with support. Next there's another similar example to do independently, and finally three mixed‑up problems to build flexible, exam‑ready expertise.

Stay tuned for sample pages and ordering details as the book moves into print.
